MTC > Zain.
07Aug07

MTC is (finally) switching over to their new branding: Zain. After August 10th, all further advertisements/refrences are not allowed to carry the MTC logo or template. MTC has yet to release their new logo; so I recreated the one from Q’s post, hence the ghetto lines.
From what I understood, the reason for re-branding is unifying their name worlwide; but since ‘Zain’ itself doesn’t appeal to cultures outside of Kuwait, it defeats the purpose. They should have chosen a better global name like Agility, or added a red swish to the old logo like NBK. I am personally not a big fan of the re-branding .. the new logo reminds me of Microsoft Zune (neo-fonts and gradient).
Goodbye MTC ..

It looks too dark. The current one is cheerful with bright reds and blues!
Looks kinda dull to me. MTC ws better.
MTC is a good name, Zain is gay.
It’s not bad, but I guess their old logo & name were better.
They should’ve chosen “Zeft” instead of “Zain”!
:: Goodbye eGO
It won’t really matter. The prices are the same, the services are the same and the alternatives are just as bad :/
Hmmm, that’s bad o it doesn’t mean anything to me
I dont get them. Do they think everyone will know what Zain means?
Bs i guess 3baid is right.
i second most of you!
I for one think that it’s a bold step in the right direction. Zain might not be the best choice, but it succeeds in replacing the curretnt bland “MTC” while maintaining an Arabic identity. Also the design and colors are dynamic and make for an enigmatic appeal.
As for “not everyone getting what it means”, it doesn’t really matter (just as it didn’t matter what Testarossa or Audi meant). What’s more important is that it’s phonetically “sound” (pun intended) and I think that Zain is a good choice in that respect: it’s easy to pronounce and remember (think Sprint, Orange, Verizon).
Overall, a good marketing choice!
Its really going to be interesting to see how much worse they can do in Kuwait after the rebranding!
Sigh.. I’m not saying that it is good or bad, I’d like to see what their real strategy here is. I’ll keep an open mind..
i dont like it
the old one is better !!
Ahmed:
I have heard that there will be several color schemes, only time will tell (this one just looks stupid).
Missy-TheOriginal:
This one looks like a children’s video game.
Purgatory:
I don’t think Zain is going to start a nuclear war and take you to the gay bar.
iNoor:
They should have gone with their other ideas .. which were a tad better than Zain.
Frankom:
You should have said goodbye a long time ago!
3baid:
Very true .. MTC = dropped calls ridiculous prices.
chikapappi:
Exactly, MTC has been etched in our heads since youth .. now we have a four letter word.
Delicately Realistic:
I guess its supposed to roll of your tongue ..
Zain:
Hehe .. Don’t get me wrong .. its a great name, just not a good global brand name. Soon people will be asking if you were named after a mobile company.
Khaos:
We have someone that likes it! You raise some great points .. however the name does not associate with anything outside of Kuwait. Agility was a perfect choice .. it gave the company a strong brand. And the colors/font look too hard to be futuristic
As for Audi and Testarossa .. they both have references to the original brand .. Zain is soso. Its like NBK changed its name to yabeela ..
Marzouq:
Every other call will be dropped .. prices will double.
Zain? Zain.
N.:
No real strategy .. global brand re-identifying itself under one umbrella.
Navy Girl:
Start a petition to bring back to old logo!
ghasub they wanna convince themselves that they’re “zain”een?
Zain is a brand name for dairy & drink products here in Oman.
That is simple, it looks good & neat actually.
The point isn’t that foreigners and ‘everyone else’ understand what ‘zain’ the word means. Nokia has a huge chunk of the mobile handset market. Do you know what Nokia means? Does the average consumer care what it means?
Change is good. Bland names suck. On that point, choosing ‘zain’ specifically is another matter altogether.
also fyi this will not be the logo at launch, and i shall speak no more of it
Since they cater to individuals I think they wanna use a funky local hip word which would be easier for their ads, since they are into jingles o funny clips you know… MTC-Vodafone when in a commercial sounds heavy you know - it’s more of a corporate name. If they know how to utilize it eb nice designs o a fresh new young vision, i think it might work guys
EniGma:
Its so when your friends ask what kind of line you have .. you say Zain. Knowing Kuwaitis, they will probably refer to it as zift the way the current network is operating.
Nightface:
I think (hope) this logo will be different from the final version ..
zeecu:
I agree .. however there are reasons for naming companies. Nokia was named after the town it was established in. Afterwards, the name stuck with the Company; If Nokia was to rebrand (god forbid) they would probably choose something a more powerful.
Zain is targeted to replace the image of a huge corporation .. and I personally think they should have gone in another direction. However, keep in mind that I am bias towards the MTC brand .. as it has become a household name in Kuwaiti Society.
chikapappi:
Again .. I hope NBK doesn’t follow suit and call itself Yabeela!
whats going on..I like MTC better everyone in Egypt know more about MTC as one of leading mobile communication companies world wide.
I think they should make a survey before they go on.
Hehehe! Imagine!
I started work in MTC this Saturday, in 3 weeks I’ll be an employee of Zain, is this considered a job switch?
Muh’d M. Mansour:
They should send you an email and ask for your approval.
chikapappi:
You never know .. !
Abdulla:
You should demand a raise .. say you need it as a incentive to stay with the new company.
looool yeah i guess soo since they both starts with Z
It turns out that Zain does have a meaning in English (though I won’t say that MTC are aware of it).
It means:
1. A trouper
2. A dark horse
Navy Girl:
Just wait for the jokes to start .. thats when the funny names will start to come out.
Khaos:
Great, along with KNPC, KIA and NBK .. they can form the four horsemen of the apocalypse.
i dont think we can really judge til we see the logo with the real colors and how it will be introduced
I’m actually working for an agency here in Amman, we will do the rebranding campaign in jordan.
MTC stands for mobile telecom company, or something like that, which is very common and already registered in other countries, that was the main reason for the change. Also, a point already mentioned, do you know what sony, cartier, gucci, and so many other brand names mean?
Not bad!
LETS BREAK THIS DOWN PROFESSIONALLY:
LOGO: COLOR TONE , VERY PS3 TYPE AND VISUALLY UN-PRESENT. THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE A HARD TIME IN PRINT AND VARIOUS MEDIA MEDIUMS.
NAME: ZIAN, IMPLYING WHAT I GUESS. DO THEY MEAN THIER SERVICE IS ZIAN? THE COMPANY IS ZIAN? DO THEY MAKE YOUR POCKET FEEL ZAIN?
STRATEGY: IN ALL CASES REVAMP AND RE-IMAGING IS A GOOD STEP TO REVITALIZING YOUR CORPORATE APPEARANCE. STRATEGICALLY IT MEANS THAT MTC IS GOING MORE OVERSEAS, SO IT NEEDS A LOOK AND FEEL TO MERGE ON ALL LEVELS AND CULTURES. BEING MORE UP-TO-DATE AND DEMOGRAPHICALLY TUNED.
LETS NOT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER, THIS LOGO MIGHT BE THE FIRST REVEAL OR DRAFT - PROTOTYPE.
BUT NO ONE THOUGHT THAT MTC MIGHT HAVE ACTUALLY PLANTED THIS LOGO HERE TO READ YOUR COMMENTS AND DECIDE……..ITS A GREAT WAY TO PICK YOUR NEXT PLAN, BY INVOLVING THE DIRECT CONSUMER. IF THATS THE CASE, MTC IS ONE STEP BEYOND AND HAS REALLY PROVEN TO BE A LEARNING ORGANISATION.

Time will tell .. they are unveiling the new logo on August 25th.
It’s a great step toward being a GLOBAL. Wait and see and you will be proud of it sooooooooon
Their new slogan is zain babah zain!
it doesn’t matter what it is now , you have to provide better services instead
is that the final logo??? my baby bro can design a better one… from white background to a black background qimmat ilta3asa =~~[
It’s funny your last line should read “Goodbye MTC”.
This morning I just read on the front of one of the Bahrain english-language newspapers that MTC is to move its HQ from Kuwait to Bahrain, due to Bahrain having a ‘better climate for business’.
Who will be next to jump ship?!
And even funnier is a “Global Communications Director” typing everything in CAPS. Even my mother knows that’s bad net communication etiquette.
Nice work on the logo. You can find the original one here:
http://mykblog.com/2007/09/03/the-real-zain-logo/
The only difference is the font of Zain.

- In Cases of forums over interactive media mediums (internet websites), you capitalize you letters to implicate a topic referendum. That’s exactly what i was doing, so please don’t over load yourself with intelligence. Trying to question my Communication skills and PhD in Advertising Communications, plus 10 years of communication experience is not a good choice. If you would like to comment, please comment on the subject matter and not on the people themselves in this forum.
Thank You,
Nourhan
WeLL , can ny 1 just tell me wot is this goin on .. ?
foof … gimme a break ?
ana mooo zain !!
Its all a load of marketing hype to us in East Africa. MTC bought the pan-African mobile operator Celtel this year which had just completed its own re-branding .
It will only confuse Celtel’s 22 million subscribers to rebrand further when their One Network platform doesn’t work properly.
I reckon these guys should get their technology & pricing right THEN worry about brands whether global, Arab Gulf States or pan African.
Incidentally we get lots of processed juice here branded Zain, so our question would be are you names after a fruit or a mobile telephone company???
I dint liked initially, but this is a common human problem he neverlikes new changes, gradually he will accept and like the same. The changes is good only if it is useful for the people by making incoming calls free from internation calls.
Not by changing Logo or colors or etc.
