The following are a couple posts that I never got around to writing completely; view this post as the incomplete compilation of a dead rap artist.

K on The Avenues.
I finally had a chance to visit ‘The Avenues’ today. My thoughts were echoed in countless other blogs/conversations about the mall. Its huge, the stores are repetitive and Ikea is over-hyped. Mall of Emirates still has an edge due to its indoor ski slope (as trivial as that sounds).

Also, I personally don’t see what the big deal with Carrefour.. its another supermarket. Unless they are going to be selling magical foods that allows me to drop weight while eating fried chicken .. it does nothing for me.

However, as much as I despise Vergen-Kuwait, the mall is missing a media outlet .. it is in severe need of a magazine/bookshop/music store. Browsing the aisles of Cd’s or books should be common practice in the mall; get a couple magazines or good books and hangout at Starbucks #11. (To Al-Shaya, Sacrifice a Starbucks and give us a Borders/Barnes and Noble).

K on The 300.
This movie did not change my life. Again, this movie did not change my life.

While others may lead you to believe that this is the single best movie since the compiled works of Lynch, Scorsese and Soderbergh combined .. they lie. The people who enjoyed this movie are the same people who thought Da Vinci code was the best book they have ever read. I personally thought Frank Miller’s previous comic adaptation, sin city, was a more complete story. It was a great movie, just nothing that I haven’t seen before. The movie can be summarized in two parts; Childhood, Fight.

Be wary of people that have watched the movie within the past 72 hours; they will be convinced that they are capable of killing elephants and Persians with blunt airline utensils.

K on Shakira.
I went and visited my future Ex-wife while she was singing in Dubai. Shakira had an amazing show, provided I only knew about three songs. I managed to call her hotel room the next morning (42nd floor, Shangri-La) and invited her to breakfast. She declined due to a back pain from the previous night. Hope you feel better Shaki.. my invitation is always open.

K on the Kuwait Times.
Finally, The wonderful Sumayyah interviewed for an article about blogging in today’s Friday Times (Kuwait Times). Great article, and that’s not only because its about me (or me talking about starting a blog).

    I is dead.

yeah, i agree with you on 300. Visually, the movie was amazing. It was so, so pretty.

Other than that, it fell apart really often.

  3. 3 Delicately Realistic

Totally with u on 300 and avenues.

I should post all my drafts like that…..i think ive reached a point that my drafts are more than my actual published posts hehe

  4. 4 baroque

    shakira amazing (check)
dubai mall of emirates phenomenal (check)
    avenues, still didn’t visit..
    didn’t see the newspaper yet..
but hey, i’ll take ur words on them..

  5. 5 Qaiss

Al shaya owns the company so thats why the repetition of al shaya stores, but they say it has a feel of the american malls.

  6. 6 cajie

    re…shakira
Will you let her sing in public after marriage?

  7. 7 CyberRowdy

    I divorced her last week.

    Jacqui:
The way you drive .. I am not surprised.

    michael:
Exactly .. I am still waiting for the story, maybe there is a part two.

    Delicately Realistic:
Exactley! I have drafts for days .. thinking about posting them and having the readers use their imagination to finish them.

    baroque:
The article should be on their website .. although, its a bit pointless for those who already have blogs. Avenues is something you should visit, so when people discuss it you can pretend your in the loop. I believe Al-Shaya wants you to either visit the avenues, or have no friends.

    cajie:
I am a fairly liberal guy, the singing would be alright. We would have to do something about the male dancers tho.

    CyberRowdy:
Did you use the divorce-shakira google website?

  9. 9 CyberRowdy

I issued the uniondel on shak rowdy$ prompt :)

  10. 10 Jacqui

    I don’t drive crazy :(

  11. 11 purgatory

    Should we call you K-pac?

  12. 12 Mini R.

I hear Borders is opening in the Avenues. Not sure if the rumors are true or not. Been keeping my eyes & ears open on that one.

  13. 13 k

    Qaiss:
I know that Al-Shaya owns Mabanee/Avenues .. I just think that several starbucks and duplicates of the same store is unnecessary. I am not going to buy more clothes because there are seven versions of H&M.

    CyberRowdy:
I am assuming you used sudo?

    Jacqui:
Eyes on the road .. not the phone.

    purgatory:
Nope, I came back from the dead… he pulled an elvis.

    Mini R.:
With the current regulations by the MoI .. borders will have a less books than starbucks locations. I can’t even find a decent history book about Kuwait..

  14. 14 Mini R.

MoI? If they haven’t stopped my 3 shipments of Salman Rushdie’s books. And of course the various Kama Sutra books. You think they’d know what to ban and what not to ban? ;)
They’re a joke. But then again, no matter what they open here. Books are still too expensive in Kuwait. And I still haven’t bought a single book locally yet, not even from Virgin.

Let’s put you up as the next minister, how about that? I’ll be your running mate. ;)

  15. 15 k

    Mini R.:
Of course they stopped Salman Rushdie .. he is a terrible writer. I read Satanic verses twice and still don’t know what all the fuss is about. If you want to order books/dvds from Amazon; make sure you order something else with the packaged (e.g. clothes). When they read the contents on the side .. they will not check it as thoroughly. If you want books you should either get a E-Reader and download them; or visit Dubai for the weekend and make use of your extra luggage.

At the current trend of government; they will dissolve it in another 3 months and set up a sms voting system ala Star Academy. We might have a chance in the next one ..

The Friday Times article was a delight. Not just because you were teaching us newbie bloggers to keep it fresh but also because majority of their articles was actually very similar and accumulating cobwebs in my blog drafts.
The “spartan abs” in 300 was the only thing that does something in my insides. hehe.
Repetition of clothing stores and starbucks should be banned.!. Repetition of bookstores?! Bring it on!

  17. 17 purgatory

    So Elvis is 2pac??

  18. 18 Mimi

Shakira is actually MY wife. Yes.. she’s a lesbian in hiding. And wow.. good times. Let’s do it again sometime.

  19. 19 Maze

    100% true …:)

  20. 20 Holla

300 sucks. I fast forwarded through most of it to get to the fighting bits which were alright.
Man i just kept thinking throught the film the Persians WISH they were half as cool as they were depicted-minus the cowardly part of course hehehe.

  21. 21 DiiGMaa

    I thought you quit :P
well good you’re still arnoud.. did you go to johny’s to get the paper ? :P

  22. 22 Misguided

Unless they are going to be selling magical foods that allows me to drop weight while eating fried chicken .. LOL that was funny.

And sadly, for a while i was one of those that thought “Da Vinci Code’ was the coolest book ever. Dude, I missed work because I couldn’t put it down.. for real!

  23. 23 Lexicon

compilation of a dead rap artist! hahah k is back! you were spot on on the da vinci code, utter crap and an even worse movie…and also i know the reason u dont post often is cause u r totally dedicated to this blog, u r a perfectionist…but think of the fans while u r away :-p

  24. 24 k

    Ana Filibini:
Thanks .. The spartan abs were there for wives and girlfriends to watch while their significant others were enjoying the fighting. I highly doubt we would see several bookstores in one mall .. The MOC only allows about 15 books per store.

    purgatory:
Elvis is 2pac and vice versa ..

    Mimi:
I can introduce you two after the divorce settlement.. And we can do it again in a couple months (I still need to recuperate).

    Maze:
Did you feel the need to add such wise words to this post?

    Holla:
Ahmedinejad should get the immortal masks and hook up the army. I am sure that would scare the shit out of some people.

    DiiGMaa:
Rample lies… And I wouldn’t quit, I would just stop writing.

    Misguided:
Everyone thinks Da Vinci code is a good book; until they read his other novels and realize its the same story.

    Lexicon:
I think its the lack of dedication, and things to write about.

  25. 25 Mini R.

K, thank God they haven’t banned a single book/dvd I ordered. I’d raise holy hell if they did.

Hey..I liked all of dan brown’s books :/

  26. 26 purgatory

Which makes Nibaq biggie smalls and me P.diddy.

  27. 27 Radiance

    [Ikea] - hackneyed

  28. 28 spontaneousnessity

    plans I had you made, 3alaik bel3afya

  29. 29 Financy

Can I marry your divorcee after your done with her ?

    Naster 3aleehah wana okhook !

  30. 30 Commenter

The Avenues haven’t completely finished so maybe they will get better, I’m only against bringing everything to Kuwait, coz I like special stores to be left unharmed in their original countries. 300 would’ve been great as a short movie or something like that

  31. 31 lebinbah

Why can’t you people just accept that the 300 was just a movie aimed at entertaining people, Frank Miller said countless times that he is not making the movie for an Oscar, he is making a movie where people can go in, enjoy and leave … and so far everyone who liked it enjoyed it.

And about the story !! .. just read your history books … that’s all the story there is!!! … 300 Spartans and allies went out to hold the Persians for a while until the others can reorganize … People just like to nag!!

  32. 32 k

    Lebinbah:

    Taken from wikipedia:
Opinion is a person’s ideas and thoughts towards something. It is an assessment, judgement or evaluation of something.

I watched the movie, and gave my opinion.. I thought it was a great movie albeit, a little shallow on the storyline. If I wanted to read a book to understand the movie, then I would be watching something else. If you liked the movie, good for you; just don’t tell me how I should feel about it.

  33. 33 Marzouq

hahahaha! Future Ex-Wife! thats all I got from this post!

I agree with you about Avenues, nothing new, just big and no place for media! I want a real big bookstore somwhere!

  34. 34 boredq80

I agree with you! I wish they would stop opening up millions of starbucks and start with bookstores, I miss going into barnes and nobles and having so many choices of books to buy … The good thing about Barnes&Noble or Borders is a lot of times they had such good deals (buy 3 books for the price of 2 or something like that).
Your comment about carrefour made me laugh, I just hope they have a better baking aisle then the jam3iyas and sultan
