Hala February.
Someone left a comment on my previous post about the non-existence of Hala-February.
The first comment:
Hala February Festival 2007 is launched again after establishing itself as a distinctive feature of both tourism and shopping at the local and regional level. An overview of the events and activities achieved previously and sizable public interaction proves that Kuwait is a fertile land for such manifestations that generate positive objectives and facilitate economic, entertainment, cultural and marketing gains. This invitation is addressed by Condor International Group to open a new page of Kuwait’s present time, looking forward to a more festive future.
First, someone needs to take the thesaurus away from whoever wrote that. “Kuwait is a fertile land for such manifestations that generate positive objectives” .. Ok. Second, this statement says nothing about what is happening during Hala-February. The people behind Condor International Group have done a terrible job of advertising what the events are and when they are taking place. They just keep writing big words with no real goal in mind.
The second comment:
Its HALA FEB … The 8th year
The season of joy and celebration is back in Kuwait.
Hala February 2007 will be bigger and better than ever before.
With over a million dollars in prizes, art shows, music concerts, and cultural exhibitions.
Hala February 2007 promises a month of
festivities for the entire family.

Today is the 21st of February, there is a week left in the month.. Bigger and Better? How about later then never… Or better than the one we didn’t have last year. I checked out the ‘lucky draws’… The page said ‘coming soon’. I heard one of the prizes were tickets to Dubai, that’s a great way to advertise how ‘Kuwait is a fertile land for such manifestations’. Where are the cultural exhibitions? Where are the art shows?
From the website:
This year, the focus will be “quality” rather than “quantity” of activities and shows. We are concentrating on achieving a high standard for performances to provide the public with joy, culture and knowledge, collectively.
The only thing on the website that has anything to do with events is a list of children acts with names like Red Indians Show, Barbie Show, Hawaii Show and Ninja Turtles Show. I suggest all the readers check out the ‘quality’ present at the Barbie Show. Even the poster looks like it was designed by children in a class teaching Microsoft-word. I personally think the people at ‘Condor International Group’ did a terrible job with this year’s event. The launch was dismal, the events are not advertised and even the prizes involve leaving the country.

Next year it should be done earlier, like in August.
Dying laughing. And did you see that Kuwait raised it’s perceived terrorist threat in light of Hala February??? Like what, kill the shoppers?
At least the people on the gulf street took it as an invitation to spray foam and dance for the whole month…
Every year our company participates in Hala Feb !. But the amazing thing is almost every customer refuses to take the coupons saying ‘ they have never heard anyone win , EVER!” .In marina mall Only three shops are particiapting in Hala this yeae Sunglass hut,the ONE and Adidas [ who infact are on sale 365 days ].
The reason no one is participating in Hala is they charge KD150/- for participation and KD50/- for extra coupons . where as Companys can just pay the stamp fee of KD10/- to Chamber of Commerce and have thier own sale, if so !Who needs Hala anyways ?
The poster looks like something that could be done for 6ifil al mostaqbal, oo i cant belive that they changed the logo! It looks to dubai-ish and childish, the old hala feb logo was classy.
Wow it seems that things really really suck this year.
So hala feb is aimed at increasing tourism in kuwait, but it seems from their activities (and poster) that they are aiming at young children in kuwait. Interesting….
I am starting think that its one big scam, that several big guns “profit” from.
thats just retarded, February has already ended, it was horrible and nothing happened!
There should have been discounts and real concerts.. somehow its as if all the muscians in Kuwait have been killed off! Let them bring a couple of singers from Lebanon and Egypt and everyone will be happy gaurantteed! Plus whatever we got here! Make it damn festive, but that didn’t happen! Its a complete and utter failure!
You tell ‘em!
nothing ever happenes in hala feb.
except 3agad crowding the streets dancing like hooligans and terorizing drivers, lets not forget the foam!
ah how festive it is
To hala feb ppl
if u cant come up with any activities that would be more interesting to people than vandilising cars, maybe it should send some kind of signal.
“Even the prizes involve leaving the country.”
LOL that’s a good one
i have some draw coupons that say the site would tell me where to find where i’m supposed to take them to , yet i can’t find it
I second Krispy : )

I loved reading these comments. Especially the one about there seems to be no winners…. well, guess what?! Apparently, I won 200KD worth of something from a store called Jothens. This was the beginning of a “wild goose chase”that is so typical of Kuwait.
First, I heard that I won through a rumor from friends who had read the newspaper. I didn’t believe them but I checked on the Hala february website and sure enough my name was listed under the winners… but I had to get my friend to translate since there was no English on the website. There were no insructions or phone numbers for winners to contact about claiming the prize.
Second, I went to the Jothens store and they told me I needed to get a certificate from someone… who? They didnt’know. Okay…. so 3 weeks later someone actually called me to tell me I had won. Finally! I asked how I could claim the prize and was told to go to the commercial ministry….. I’ve taken 2 mornings off work driving around Al-Sour street trying to find this seemingly ficticious ministry building. Even the other ministry buildings I entered didn’t know where it was or led me to another “dead end.” I think I’ve given up. The contact person whose number I was given is never there and no one answers the phone at all! So, in the end, I guess I’ve “won” a lot of frustration and wasted time. Thanks a lot!
