“Sharq” (”EAST”), Directed by Erik Sandoval and Produced by Abdulaziz Alsharhan, “Sharq” is one of the first independent filmes produced in KUWAIT. Stay tuned for links to the trailer and still shots of the movie due to be released in the “Hala Febrayer” festival in Kuwait theatres among many competitions worldwide.
The trailer looks great and actually looks like something that would be interesting to watch. As soon as I have any further details, I will post them here. If you guys have any questions/comments regarding the movie; you can leave comments here and I will pass them on.

Just from the trailer, the idea is similar to other international movies with similar themes plus I do not see it giving a realistic view of Kuwaiti Kids. If it was done along the lines of fight club , fast and the furious or maybe beavis and butthead, all would be more realistic than Sharq, even Supersize me would be a better idea (plot, mohammed will start a 30 days brek.,lunch and dinner from Fara7 and ends up being as big as a dolphin)
The trailer looks like those boys have traveled through a time portal to present time Kuwait and it is obvious that it has been done to project a positive story, which does not stretch the imagination.
I tried to find more on Erik Sandoval , but there is a guy in the US with the following profile on myspace:

conculsion, the guy has talent and vision, but I am not sure about the realisim of Sharq.

The trailer doesn’t say much about the story. However, the trailer does show that it is a movie with artistic depth and is a departure from the disastrously poor performances/ productions in Kuwait in the recent years. Although there are many that do appreciate art house independent movies, the majority unfortunately set their benchmarks with Spiderman.

They had problems getting funding in Kuwait .. ybayin how this country cares about promoting these things. And no girls because they probably couldn’t find anybody!

Realism or not .. its still a good (quality too) movie made in Kuwait with the help of Kuwaities .. call it what you want, I think its a great step in any direction.

They delayed production because a full orchestra was redoing the sound track; that alone is a huge departure from the stuff we have seen in the past.

Only if I knew who you were before I posted that comment hahaha, Well the movie should be out in Kuwaiti theaters, I’m not in charge of that in Kuwait since I’m not there… With regards to copies, I can assure all of ya that no one has a copy of the film right now, so don’t even bother looking around for it… I’ll have updates on my site very soon, and you can always come and check with these guys cuz apparently many of you did your research… K, thanks again mate, we’ll talk very soon.. It looks nice but the trailer was too short, I was hoping to see more! perhaps one day I will run into this movie, in the US and Latin America is hard to hear good things about the Arab world.
