MTC No-Go.
Here we go again..
Wataniya took their data sim card; stuck it into a router (Option’s GlobeSurfer 3G HSDPA router), called it ‘new Wnet’ and introduced it as a a new service. Then they started charging 12kd extra a month.. Thats almost double the price .. for no increase in service.
Well people; There is no difference in service between the Laptop Card and Router. The only thing that might be of any help is that you might have a bigger limit. Limit? Yes, a limit, all ‘unlimited’ connections have a limit (1gb + 1gb); you might have a larger limit (5gb) if you purchase the router thing.
I would purchase the box (which is actually cheaper than buying alone); use the data connection for a month. Cancel the service and put the chip from the laptop data card. You would have the same download speed .. and it would cost half the price.

Now MTC has done the same thing .. they went and got the USB version (Huawei E220) of their data card (which has been out for ages, I had one months ago and it has been collecting dust). Then they claimed that they have a ‘new network’ .. its nothing new, its the same old network with less bugs.
People might say that this is a new network service and that the speeds are blazing fast. So, just to give MTC the benefit of the doubt; I will be returning one of the pcmcia data cards (Huawei E620) and getting the new E-Go usb card (Huawei E220). I do not expect their to be any difference in the speed (~512kbps) between the laptop and usb cards.
Now, I never did write a post comparing the data connections between MTC and Wataniya because their was no competition. Wataniya’s data network is far more advanced and accesible than MTCs. And don’t expect to get the full HSDPA connection speed .. the connection will be severly limited.
Just to sum up this post.
1. If you have the MTC data card, throw it in the garbage and go with Wataniya.
2. If you want to get this Data card for your home pc, you will be laughed at, get dsl.
3. If you want a connection that you can take from location to location with multiple computers; Get the Wataniya router, cancel the service and swap the sim card.
I personally think both companies (MTC to a higher extent) are still months away from a reliable/fast data network .. they even have a hard time getting voice-calls right.
p.s. All IT people who want to use HSDPA (don’t do it); I suggest looking into the Sarian HR4420.

Well i have the new USB device i dont know if there was any bugs in the network but i can tell that the speed in this Device much higher and faster than the speed of my Data card which is also from MTC !
Even if MTC has more customers than Wataniya still i tried the Wataniya Data card not yet with the new router from them.
I will just trust you although I do not trust wireless networking I must have a wire plugged in my pc to feel comfertable.

I should get the 120KD router from Wataniya with the SIM card supplied, and almost immediately cancel.
Then just insert their “regular” high-speed SIM (the 14/20KD one depending on who you talk to in Wataniya) and put that in the 120KD router.
You’ve tried this and it gets the same speed? Is it easy to change the SIM in the unit (it’s not like sealed, and you have to break into it?)?

So it’s possible that if you pay out that much, and after a while find that the service isn’t quite as fast as you’d like (or you switch to MTC), you could probably get at least your 120KD back selling the modem on ebay!

According to my testing (and Wataniya’s tech dept.) there is no difference between the service available on the data card and router .. its all marketing.

Very well said K! I know what you mean about being far away! The only real good ones are sprint and verizon in the states and they still need to improve. Verizon has the fastest currently because of their setup and its damn good too.
MTC and Wataniya are trying to setup their network, but while it is in mediocre condition they are trying to make some money off people. Secondly Huawei is not known for their wireless products, they have amazing core switches and routers for triple play backbones! Not wireless products, not yet anyways so I dont know where MTC wants to go with this, but like I said before Im better off putting another dsl connection at home and getting a load balancer that just makes things so much better!

Hahahhaha when it comes to the technology I bow down to the K. I used to be just as savvy as he is… when we were both in the seventh grade. Damn you, Windows 95! That program killed my momentum.
I am actually glad someone decided to do something via USB! All the other products dont work on MAC notebooks, this one does so I am pleased. Plus you always know that MTC will come out with something bigger and better than anyone else, just give’em time.

WATANYA once they started their company… they have called germany guy, for their network.. He said: “I will not work on this bad and old network.. u should change it, then I can help to improve ur company” then Shaikh Subah said ok.. So they have comletly changed their network.. WE ALL KNOW THAT MTC GOT AN WON THE MARKET.. AND I hate Watanya, but we should admit that their network is the best!! u know what? I am working with QTEL (QATAR TEL. COMPANY) for a project.. do u know what does this company give its customerS? Their local calls are FREE!!!!!! If u call from a mobile to another one .. its FREE! For a few fees yearly!! woow! w here.. if u say Allooo? 45 fils are added to ur BILL! U know they have changed the billing system all around the world !!

K, dont you think these companies are fooling customers with some tech phrases and promising never achievable speeds(with their current network standards / operation)?
Poor ordinary people…they shed all the money, only to make these companies exapnd their pockets…Kuwait is far away from so called quality of service…in any field…let alone in mobile / telecommunications..

i live in jnob al-surra 3 years ,, NO DAMN LINES ,, with GPRS mtc ,, 9.5 KD in the month
the download is 1.8k !! after that the EDGE is come with nokia 6630 ,, the download 20kb ,, very good ,, but only one month & it`s down to 5kb >97KD for 3 month ,, after week the net will work ^^.
i am very glad ,, i went to (al rehab) buy xbox 360 ,, I WILL PLAYING ONLINE YAHOOOOO , after 10 Days ,, i call them ,, when the net will work ? the said 2 me : your phone is 5211*** ? in jnob al-surra ? it is not working @@! your line is viper & the DSL must be broband.

i called qualitynet ,, the said : we cant give u the DSL the Cuz the new lines , then i called FASTTELECO (akbar nsaben) can u ,,,? the said : if you have a phone line , wa can do it baby . i went to them & get the 512kb for 3 month 97KD .

I live in Kuwait city and i tried both MTC’s usb device e-GO and Wataniya’s W-net pcmcia aircard both offer HSDPA & 3G service and after intense testing i decided to go with Wataniya’s W-net aircard because its more stable than MTC’s e-GO transfer rate is 175 kbps almost all day everyday while MTC’s e-GO has faster transfer rates max 190 kbps but its unstable and you only get that speed at late night only!
Is it possible to use the hsdpa service if i have the mtc unlimited gprs package and a phone with hsdpa like nokia 6120?i tried 107 and they say its possible but i dont belive thos guys
