Student-Talk responds.
Student-Talk’s founder has responded on the Student-Talk plagiarism post.
This is Zeina M, the person who started Studentalk and the publishing house behind it.
I want to personally thank you for taking so much time and putting so much effort into researching Studentalk.
I never thought any of our readers would go to such lengths. Unless, you are working for another publication!!! Did we, by any chance, step on your toes lately? Has our success been so frustrating to you?
Anyways, as the saying goes, there is no such thing as bad publicity. So thank you for the free campaign.
Personally, I believe, if something is not controversial it is stagnant.
I thank you for reading Studentalk, please do not miss my letter from the editor in the January 2007 issue. I shall have a few words for you in it.
P.S: I would like to see you on a unicycle but I don’t advise you to inhale carbon monoxide, but then, good luck on both!!
I am putting my reply in points, to make it easier to understand:
- I do not, and have not, ever written for any publication in Kuwait (except my personal blog).
- I can not be jealous of your magazine; due to the fact that there aren’t any good/original articles to be envious of.
- Your magazine is not controversial… it’s an amalgamation of butchered articles from the internet.
- It will take a bit more than a personal attack in the editor’s column to get me to read student-talk again. Although, I would appreciate it in the form of an email (My posts are copyrighted .. so please don’t take any of my old articles and use them as your own).
- You can catch my unicycle act every monday and friday at Marina World.

LMAO! Hehehehehehehehe I have seen you on a unicycle before and I have no trouble seeing you on it again
But as for her reply, it was pointless, and not even half professional!
An editor of a magazine doesn’t respond in such matters, they should at least not respond in such a childish manner..
Let me try and remember the last magazine that was made fun of … I think it was Bazaar! I remember someone reffering to it as toilet paper! I thik we might have a competitor to that!
Why is she upset? It’s just constructive criticism with a sarcastic twist. 3al aqal let her do something about it instead of writing unprofessional emails to bloggers who dislike the magazine.
This reminds me of a famous poem
My hump, my hump, my lovely lady hump, check it out.
She must have cut and pasted the response also, bad habits are hard to break.
Hehehe, Don Veto’s comment is hilarious! But I think since it’s so unprofessional, it has to be their own writing.
oh my god this has to be the worst response ever. like wtf?! she thinks making her magazine so bad that people talk about how bad it is, is actually a good thing?!?!
“I never thought any of our readers would go to such lengths.”
You mean you never thought anyone would care to check?
” I never thought any of our readers would go to such lengths ”
she assume her readers are shallow
” Did we, by any chance, step on your toes lately? Has our success been so frustrating to you? ”
Disagreeing with you does not equal jealousy
LOL talk about bad PRing.
Is she serious? what the hell was this email all about?
HAhahahahhaahahahah!
Wow… that was so unprofessional it made me want to cry. Who the hell is funding these guys? I especially liked her comment that “theres no such thing as bad publicity.” Unfortunately, when the publicity is pointing out your poor standards of journalism, there IS such a thing as bad publicity.
That said, I do commend her on one outstanding piece of investigative reporting: how the hell did she find out about your unicycle act, K? And I thought that carbon monoxide inhalation stuff was just between you and I!
eheh omg !
Drama
‘There is no such thing as bad publicity’.. thats so wrong, so cliche, think for a second, ur no paris hilton ur a magazine -supposedly- ! (even though ur ONLY about ads) . At first K I thought you were a bit shayef 7alik 3ala il magazine and their spelling mistakes ya3ni int khireej amreeka il kilish ;p. Now I also feel like looking down on the magazine, not because because im great on spelling or grammar, but because as an avid reader of free stuff ;p I feel that Studentalk is the most useless magazine out there, even sho fi ma fi is more useful. The longest interview the magazine has with students is about 2 lines which are usually very lame. Where is the student that talks? its more of studentmumbles surrounded by milllions of ads, and that is the ONLY focus unfortunately, ur getting the ads, you might as well write something useful.
Note to Ms. Zeina: Sometimes when you write an email (such as the one you sent to K) dont send it right after writing it, sleep on it then send it the next morning, believe me you could’ve saved yourself the humility.
Not to K: Now tell me the truth K, Has their success been so frustrating to you? gool issij ;p
ROTFL !!!!!!!!!
Jackie:
My Unicycle act is bar none .. As for the editor, its almost Christmas, we should play nice.
The Stallion:
Hehe .. I think I should dedicate a monthly post to the magazines in Kuwait.
adorra:
She is upset because the magazine (under her control) is bad; and writing emails is easier than fixing a magazine.
Purgatory:
You don’t want no drama,
No, no drama, no, no, no, no drama
Don Veto:
The response is original .. the first thing I did was check google.
Elijah:
I still had to do a double-take and check!
Mark:
And I thought shrimpy was bad ..
3baid:
Hehe .. exactly.
Forzaq8:
She assumes her readers are idiots..
shopa:
It was a comment on the last post!
Boss:
Its actually quite ironic regarding the funding; I will tell you later. I mentioned my carbon monoxide addiction in the last post .. going to rehab soon. As for the unicycle, I am blowing up baby! Next stop .. Hollywood.
مبتدئ:
Hehe .. if it was spelling mistakes, I would have let it pass.. As for the response .. it was a comment on the last post (meant to be public!). Il sar7a .. their success has been keeping me up at night. I have spent countless days thinking how to get college kids to answer my questions about which gender is smarter and if women should work.
Yeh I know..but seriously, it sounded like a 10 year old defending something he likes.
LOL.
Go, K, go!
I (heart) Kay!
And here I was expecting an apology for breaking the laws of plagarism.
Instead, I find an admittance of low soceity IQ expectations, and pitiful attacks on you.
‘K The Kuwaiti’ did the decent by highlighting plagiarism, a legal offense under the law but apparently the Editor of this travesty has delusions of grandeur and thinks she is editing “Harper’s Bazaar.”
This so-called Editor: No professionalism. No class. No intellectual capacity to discuss matters related to her so-called “paper” and no mention of the plagiarization done by one of her writers.
Grow up girl go to a Communications/Journalism school like the rest of us - Columbia, A.U. USC, - but then again I don’t think you’d pass “Ethics 101″ or “Journalism 101″ either.
Hell, come to think of it, I don’t think they’d accept you.
And besides, “Studentalk” makes Kuwait Airway’s inhouse magazine “Buraq” look like “The Economist.”
shopa:
This post was sponsored by fantasy world.
junoony:
the11thmuse:
Wait .. are you even alive?
miyafushi:
I am looking forward to being featured in the next editors column; from all the jealousy that is.
amer:
I think they would have a hard time signing up for a part time course on english as a second language.
Now that you mentioned it .. this magazine could be a plot to make all the others look good; It would make sense.
Good Reply K….i guess i met her once….anyway her reply wanted a striking one like yours….:)
Tsk tsk tsk….see what happens to uncontrolled information? I hope the real editor of Student Talk took note of this incident and to issue an official response regarding this “Zeina Mokkadam” character who is defaming the Student Talk magazine in the blogsphere.
stallion: ever since the ‘toliet paper’ remark was made we have gone out of our way to use softer paper that is easier on the backside
k: i think its a great idea to start a monthly column on the magazine scene in kuwait.let us know if u want us to send you copies to ur place of work for you to go through.we never mind constructive criticism and in fact welcome it.
If she who wrote that response is the person behind this magazine; then ma3aleehom sharha :/
Tweez:
It is the real editor behind Student-Talk ..
bazaar:
And no need for delivery .. Bazaar is available in most places.
A monthly column would involve me writing about Bazaar once a month; since most of the other magazines are terrible.
True Faith:
It is the person behind the magazine .. believe it or not.
What do you expect from “the person who started Studentalk and the publishing house behind it” ? (note to Z M: the words between the quotation marks emphasize I have used your words but I give you credit by stating your name here: Zeina M., and where you said it here: post titled: Student-Talk Magazine is a joke., from K The Kuwaiti, a blog by K, on December 1st 2006.)
Shame on you for allowing such plagiarism to be blindly published in a youths magazine of all magazine!!
You should be directing the youth that StudentTalk is targeting as their initial readers to follow moral actions and behavior even in the simplest form of ethical writing, let alone to explore and enhance their creative minds and skills.
K
K for Kudos
A petty response - like a child lashing out when called for doing something wrong.
Copyrights and intellectual property should be protected. I hope Ms.Zeina reads this blog and uses the responses to redefine her magazine for the better.
DiiGMaa:
Thanks!
Cajie:
I doubt this post/comments are going to affect the mentality of the staff behind Student-Talk.. keep in mind they under the impression that its jealousy.
I think you should tell the people that Dima stole from about her copyright fraud hahahaa! I seriously hate Student Talk, it’s the most pointless magazine EVER!

ananyah:
Hehe .. they wouldn’t be able to do much about it tho. I agree with you about the maazine.
asmaa:
I guess their is no explanation for the articles.
