I am usually a fan of sunny days and hot weather (a couple of winters in the Midwest does that to a person); but the weather in Kuwait has been very monotonous as of late. I have been cheerfully watching the gloomy sky for some days now, hoping for the slightest drizzle. And finally, today, on my way to work, it started to rain… and the weather dropped to around 22.5c.

Maybe my dream might be coming true; except for all the building disappearing and turning into something akin to M. St in the fall.

Those who drive, be careful, the first rain likes to bring up the oils hidden within the gravel, which can lead to a fairly slippery road:

THE FIRST RAIN: OILY STREETS: Watch out when it’s just rained for the first time in a long time. Streets get a coating of oil, tire rubber and other gunk that gets very slippery when you first add water. Be more careful and reduce your speed a bit on the first wet day or two of the season.

Nice touch with the safety advice…Who are you and what have you done with K?

  3. 3 Jackie

I was sleeping at home during the rain :/ How sad :(

  4. 4 Anon

Jackie that reminds of a short story, a boy moves with his family to another planet. On that planet it rains every seven years, well the gist of the story is that he missed the rain fall.

    DiiGMaa:
Your dream is also a possibility .. look at Dubai.

    Tooomz:
No K;This post was brought to you by the letters R,F,G and the number 5,6 and 7.

    Slippery roads = accidents
    accidents = traffic
    traffic makes K mad.

So I being my same egocentric self.

    Jackie:
Many more rains to come .. if all else fails, I will stick a shower outside your window like the movies.

    Anon:

    adorra:

    Marzouq:
My car is the same way! I actually like the way it looks, looks like it has scales.

    CyberRowdy:
Its all good .. car washes here are fairly priced, I used to pay 25$ in DC!

    Haaaaaaaaaaaa K!

Good to see you’re still posting! I’ll try to keep up from all the way here in NC! Been doing a lot of reading these days: lots on history (obviously), but also a lot on Arab/Islamic economic thought and Arab philosophy. There’s some REALLY rich stuff out there! If you have the time, I’d recommend some Ibn ‘Arabi or Ibn Sina (also called Avicenna) - I think you’d really like them!

Aside from that I’ve just been trying to keep up with the workload here, which is absolutely ridiculous. Durham is a nice town, though - very much like East Lansing, except with lots of nerds around. Big Mo is in East Lansing reminiscing about the old days, though I haven’t heard from him since he arrived. I think 3a6iya might be going there tonight, or so my sources (Q) tell me.

Anyways, I just wanted to drop you a line. Keep up the blogging - it gives me something (extra) to read. Oh, and a belated 3eedik mbarak!

    Fonzy:
I skid into every corner .. I am actually enjoying the slipper roads.

    Dawn Fairy:
Summers are great .. bas bil kuwait ma9i5oha(6 months and running!). When the temperature drops under 25c I am ditching work for a coffee, 7ayach.

    Cuteberry:
Exactly, and play an old Frank Sinatra song and you can pretend your somewhere else.

Salamat! I have become a pro at keeping from slipping when I wear the Kuwaiti Sandals (Najdiyeh); those things have no grip whatsoever.
